Latest News The next Newsletter will be published in late May to incorporate pictures of our Diamond Jubilee match and the Open Day. Appointment of Green Contractor Bob Grey has left the Club following three years as our green keeper. We have now completed a tendering exercise and appointed Greenside as our consultants to maintain the green for this season. They have commenced work already with the Spring preparation. A new Green Maintenance team has been formed within the Men's Section, co-ordinated by Dave Dickson. They will be responsible for the day-to-day work on the green including rolling, cutting and green surrounds.
Diamond Jubilee Match On Sunday 25th April our Diamond Jubilee commemorative match was played on the our green. It was organised as a President v Vice-Presidents' mixed fun match and played to Federation rules, i.e. each bowl within a yard of the jack counted. Photos of the event are available on this website and in the forthcoming Spring Newsletter. Club Open Day - Sunday, 9th May 2010 The Club held an excellent Open Day with 54 visitors of whom 33 have agreed to come to free coaching sessions on the rest of the Sundays in May. Hopefully this will lead to more new playing members soon. Our Members responded brilliantly to the call to play hosts to the visitors for the day with over 50 turning out and doing a variety of jobs. Our thanks to Val and Arthur Baxter for the publicity campaign which led to the success of the day. A follow-up programme has already been started to ensure the new bowlers are welcomed into the club and given the opportunities to play in informal friendly matches and competitions for the rest of the summer season. The sterling work of our two qualified coaches, Peter Langford and Derek Warner is much appreciated. Several pictures of the event were taken and appear on this website as well as hopefully being included in local newspapers.
